tamara erbacher photography by daniel grey

daniel grey surprised me with this vide a little while ago,
it captures some time i spent with his family a little while ago whilst they were in melbourne.
his moving images and my stills – combined.
a visual story.
i love it.

creative inspiration.

i have made a lot of changes in the past few months.
changes to the way i view my own blog;
and
changes to the way i blog.

i have blogged for quite a few years now,
i used to be ‘quarterofaninch’
an ode to the perfectionist in me if you like.
i abandoned that title a little while ago…
choosing instead to be ‘me’.
yep, i know it sounds strange,
but i felt the need to take ownership over my little part of cyberspace.

at the same time i cleaned out my reader,
i mean, deleted everyone in it [no offence to any of my current readers];
i added back in those i am ‘really’ fond of, inspired by,
along with whole lot of new discoveries.
it felt so good, cleansing in fact.
the blogs i visit are no longer limited to craft or photography blogs,
in fact quite the opposite.
i didn’t realise it at the time,
but i was unknowingly avoiding the ‘comparison trap’ (you can read a fabulous article on the topic here),
a creative killer. it is. really.

these little changes have translated not only into more meaningful connections,
but a creative space that is stamped with my identity;
inspired by the colour that all of your blogs on family, children, photography, travel and craft provide.

i cannot wait to open up my reader every morning now,
i’m reading everything.
i’m not skimming through that list and feeling under this self imposed pressure.
how ridiculous that was.
how fun it now is!

what do you think?
do find yourself falling into the ‘trap’?
maybe it’s time for a change.

The above image was one from the finders keepers markets over the weekend, you can spy some more here.

1/52

by tamara on April 18, 2012

so today marks the beginning of another project for me.
something that i have seen many times before
a picture
once a week
every week
for 52 weeks
of your child/ren.

the subject will of course be elijah.
yes i have 4 other children…
apparently they are “too old” for things like this [yeah right]
so i’ll make the most of elijah whilst…well…let’s say…
he has no choice.

i am stealing an image out of todays wordless wednesday post.
perfect.
as is he.
xx

edited to add : This 52 week series will feature over here.

birth.

by tamara on April 12, 2012

almost 15 years ago I gave birth to my first child, joshua.
of that life changing experience these images above are all i have,
i have even less for my following 4 births;
there is so much more that took place between that first and last image,
so much more.
i wish i had the full story,
but i’m the photo taker in my family
so this is it.

most of you know just how much i love photography,
and telling a story in pictures.
i have been thinking about the times in our lives that are incredibly life changing,
and i have noticed that this time, the time when we give birth often goes fully undocumented,
the story of birth is the one i feel i want to tell the most.
from beginning to beginning if you like, and [everything] in between.
it is not that all the other stories that make up our life have less importance,
they are often the ones that lead up to the story of birth after all,
but i feel drawn to documenting births in a sensitive and real way.

i wonder if there is somebody you know that you think would like to have the birth of their child[ren] documented?
i would like to offer a complimentary birth session to you or someone close to you,
all you need to do is email me tamara@tamaraerbacher.com or leave me a comment
and let me know why you think this person would love to have their story told.
submissions close on the 30th of april and the only restriction is that the person must be a melbourne resident.

i really look forward to hearing from you,
xx Tam

cashmere beret

by tamara on April 10, 2012

it seems like forever since i made anything.
i think i am finding making for the sake of making difficult these days;
i am sure i am not alone when i say time is my enemy.
it’s all about priorities.

however,
knitting this small project,
it reminded me of something;
something that is incredibly important to me
and ultimately those close to me:
slow time;
quiet time;
meditative time.
it makes me a better person.

i need to knit more i think.

i guess i have strayed off the point of this post…
the cashmere beret.
finished,
and ready to be sent to a very special someone in our family.
a gift of love and support when it is needed most.

all the details are here.
